Frequently Asked Questions

  • What can I expect to happen on my first visit?

Upon entering the office, we have some brief paperwork for you to fill out. The paperwork provides us with general information about yourself and your condition. Once the paperwork has been completed, you will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, as well as potential treatment options. In order to determine what your actual problem is, the doctor will ask you various questions related to your condition. Next, a number of specialized tests will be performed to determine which tissues are affected and to what extent. Your specific condition may require us to take x-rays to either rule out more serious conditions or assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you. Once finished with the examination and all appropriate studies, patients will generally be provided with their first treatment during this same visit. This may include spinal adjustments, physical therapies, and/or soft tissue therapies. Prior to leaving, patients will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. This may include ice or heat application instructions, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises and/or stretches. You will be given a convenient appointment time for your follow-up visit. Generally speaking, patients are seen within 1-2 days and are provided with a complete review of findings. Treatment options for your condition will also be discussed during this time.

  • Will adjustments hurt or will I have pain after
    my adjustment?

Many patients come in for care already experiencing considerable pain. In those cases, pressure placed on their spines to correct dysfunctions related to their conditions may cause temporary discomfort. This is usually a short-lived and natural part of the healing process. Most report much less tenderness in just a couple of treatments, especially when they adhere to care recommendations. Most patients, even children, experience no discomfort during or after an adjustment. And if they do it is a soreness much like that experienced after starting a new exercise program and resolves often before their next scheduled adjustment. Patients involved with wellness care who receive regular adjustments rarely experience pain in their daily lives nor do they report discomfort during adjustments. Most pain and discomfort associated with care is well controlled with supportive therapies and home care recommendations.

  • Can children, pregnant women, elderly, those with certain health conditions be safely adjusted?

Many people of all ages and conditions enjoy profound benefits from Chiropractic care. That stated it is extremely important to discuss specifics of all patients’ health histories and physical examination indications with them to determine if care can proceed in a safe manner. There are those who for whatever reason must be excluded from Chiropractic adjustments or some other forms of care offered at Maine Spine Centers. It is a rare instance that an individual cannot partake in any form of care however it does occur from time to time. Most people can safely participate in care and should notice benefits within their first few visits.

  • Absolutely. Most patients will encounter some issues in regards to their insurance coverage at health care facilities of all types. It is rare to meet someone that has a completely comprehensive plan, meaning their plan covers everything 100% with no copays and no questions asked. It is safe to assume that the majority Americans now know there is no such thing as a complete health plan. Benefits often most needed to regain function or live pain-free are those absent or most restricted on plans by such barriers as high copays, visit limitations, monumental deductibles, and 3rd party adjudicated prior authorization requirements. It makes most people’s heads spin. Our guarantees: First, care recommended will always be necessary to address your individual needs in an expedient manner. Second, financial flexibility (within reason) is always extended to those who embrace their care recommendations. If our office accepts your insurance plan and it provides excellent coverage, great! If your plan is lacking necessary coverage or we do not accept it, no problem. Our office would like you to know that we will work with you so that you can afford care and receive it from the people you have placed your trust in to help you get and stay well.
